BIO
TRISTAN MILANI ACS graduated from the University of Sydney in 1990 with a BA (Fine arts) and was accepted into the Australian Film and Television School (AFTRS) the following year. Tristan studied Cinematography under the master European cameraman Josef Damien.
Graduating in 1994 Tristan was quickly chosen to shoot “NAKED-Stories of Men” by producer Jan Chapman (THE PIANO) and director Neil Armfield. In 1996 Tristan completed filming of what is now considered an Australian feature film icon THE BOYS (prod John Maynard). The film went onto receive 13 AFI nominations in the 1997 AFI Awards and was selected for competition at the Berlin International Film festival.
Tristan has completed shooting 9 feature films, telemovies including THE ROAD FROM COORAIN (prod Penny Chapman), an Imax film SOLAMAX (dir John Weiley), over 40 short films and numerous TVCs both nationally and internationally.
In 2001 Tristan was awarded with his ACS accreditation something he desired all his professional career. He has been nominated for 7 Australian Film Institute (AFI) awards for Cinematography and won 11 Australian Cinematographers Society Awards (ACS) both state and national.
In 2004 Tristan shot the food series “BILL’S LIFE” (Dir: Dominic Cyriax UK) for the Lifestyle chanel (Foxtel). The series debuted in 34 countries worldwide. The series won Tristan a prestigious ACS award for Food cinematography. The first food series ever to do so….
In september 2006 THE BOOK OF REVELATION (prod Al Clark) was theatrically released and won Tristan the pretigious NSW ACS Gold award for his cinematography on the film.The film then went onto win the AWARD of MERIT at the National ACS Awards that same year.
In 2007 Tristan photographed the low budget independent film TEN EMPTY (dir: Anthony Hayes) his first HD production…
In 2008 the new feature film BALIBO directed by Robert Connolly (THE BANK) and staring Anthony Lapaglia (Without a Trace, Lantana) started principle photography in Darwin and East Timor. BALIBO received 14 AFI nominations and won 2 of the 5 jury prizes at the Brisbane International Film festival in 2009.
The film also won the audience award at the San Paulo International Film Festival in Brazil. In 2009 Tristan received the Gold Award at the NSW ACS awards for his work on the film.
